This collaborative project brought together ARPC staff, employee volunteers from Babcock International, local resident Guy Fancourt, and professional contractors J. Booth Garden Services. Each partner played a vital role, donating their expertise, labor, and resources to improve this significant landmark.
The work program focused on comprehensive clearance of overgrown hedging, heavy brambles, encroaching ivy, and congested trees. Opening up the perimeter has established a clean, accessible layout and restored the site’s dignified presence.
While adverse weather, ranging from severe summer drought to recent heavy downpours, delayed early plans to establish the gardens, final planting has been successfully completed in time for Remembrance weekend. The Council extends its grateful thanks to Gotherington Nurseries for supplying the soil, quality plants and bulbs. As these additions establish themselves, we look forward to watching the shrubs grow and flourish to create a lasting, peaceful environment.
The completion comes ahead of the Remembrance Day Service on Sunday 8th November. The service will take place at St Nicholas Church, followed by the traditional procession to the war memorial where respects will be paid and wreaths laid.
The Council extends its sincere appreciation to all volunteers, contractors, and local businesses whose hard work, enthusiasm, and civic generosity made this transformation possible.
