Safer Roads and Community 20s

Have Your Say on Local Speed Limits!

Published: 8 October 2026

Gloucestershire County Council has launched early engagement on proposals for its Safer Roads and Community 20s initiative across Tewkesbury and surrounding areas including Ashchurch Rural, Wheatpieces and Northway.

The scheme aims to improve road safety and public health by introducing 20mph speed limits in residential areas and town/village centers where pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles share space.

Key Aims of the Scheme

  • Enhanced Road Safety: Reduce collisions, casualties, and vehicle speeds near homes and schools.

  • Healthier Neighborhoods: Lower noise and air pollution levels while encouraging active travel (walking and cycling).

  • Consistent Limits: Establish clearer, more consistent speeds across local residential roads.
