Ashchurch Rural Parish Council Calls for Volunteers to Join Community Speedwatch

Ashchurch Rural Parish Council is calling for local volunteers to join the Community Speedwatch team. With traffic increasing through the parish, the initiative allows residents to help monitor speeding vehicles and improve road safety.

With the continued rise in traffic on our rural roads, Ashchurch Rural Parish Council is calling on local residents to get involved in a vital community safety initiative — Community Speedwatch.

Community Speedwatch is a national scheme supported by local police forces, designed to empower proactive members of the community to work together in tackling the issue of speeding vehicles. Using approved detection devices, trained volunteers monitor vehicle speeds and record details of those exceeding the limit. The information collected is then shared with the police, who can take further action where appropriate.

Chair of the Parish Council said:
“Speeding is one of the most common complaints we receive from residents, particularly with more motorists using our roads as through routes. This initiative gives local people the opportunity to play a direct and positive role in improving safety in their own community.”

Ashchurch Rural Parish Council currently has several active Speedwatch sites located in:

  • Ashchurch

  • Aston Cross

  • Pamington Lane

  • Fiddington Lane

However, the council is keen to hear from residents about other areas of concern. If you believe there’s a speeding hotspot in your area, you are encouraged to get in touch and suggest a location for future monitoring.

Volunteers are needed from all parts of the parish. No previous experience is necessary — full training and all equipment will be provided. It’s a simple but powerful way to help make our roads safer for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and families.
