Tewkesbury Big Sister Project

New Initiative Empowers Local Girls to Get Active!

Published: 23 October 2025

The Big Sister Project has been launched to help teenage girls become more active, confident, and engaged in leisure activities.

The project recognises that many young women face barriers when it comes to getting involved in sport or physical activity — whether it’s a lack of confidence, the cost of sessions, or simply feeling out of place. The Big Sister Project aims to break down those barriers and create a supportive, inclusive environment where girls can thrive.

Through the scheme, participants will have access to free or subsidised leisure facilities, peer support, and tailored activity sessions that focus on fun, friendship, and empowerment.

“We want every girl to feel that there’s a space for her — somewhere she can move, socialise, and enjoy being active without pressure,” said a project spokesperson. “The Big Sister Project is about building confidence, connection, and lifelong healthy habits.”

The project’s simple but powerful goal is to create welcoming spaces where teenage girls feel encouraged to participate, discover new activities, and develop positive relationships with exercise and wellbeing.
